'Model Farm' Conversion

Manor Farm, Bishopstone, was originally one of several architect-designed 'model farms' built by the Earl of Pembroke in the early 19th century.

When converting these buildings into nine houses, it was important to preserve their character and the agricultural setting.

With original domestic-sized window openings, the livestock buildings transpose well into houses, needing little change to the elevations. Flint and brick or thatch-topped walls mark the garden boundaries in a vernacular style. And the farm yard, enclosed by buildings, provides an unobtrusive area for cars without interrupting the rural landscape.
