Pear Tree Cottage
The cottage had been refurbished internally some time ago and extended at the back long ago - two small additions that contributed little to the useable space but, more importantly, compromised afternoon light from the west into the cottage.
An inappropriate extension had been granted approval a few years ago and this would have built through the magnificent well - an important historic feature. We re-planned the extension to preserve the well (and make it a feature to be enjoyed) and also provided a new living room facing west, bedroom and ensuite and greater natural light into the core of the house. To echo the oak frame of the original cottage, our client was committed to this traditional approach being maintained and the resulting extension (and major refurbishment throughout) has both rejuvenated and enhanced the whole property, hopefully giving it another century or two of continued occupancy.
