Originally a pair of semi-detached workers' cottages, this building had been altered over several decades and had fallen into a poor condition. Its situation, on the other hand, was almost ideal with glorious views across the neighbouring countryside.
Despite the structure being unlisted and altered, the local planning authority asked for the west elevation to be retained as a reasonably good example of Victorian cottage building.
So the design of the house grew naturally from the original footprint. This, together with a single-storey kitchen and dining room extension, and secondary bedrooms in the renewed roof structure, allowed us to create sufficient space for our clients' needs.
Constructed to current thermal standards with stone elevations and hand-made plain clay tiles, the house provides high-quality living accommodation with energy-efficient solar collectors and underfloor heating.
