CONSERVATION AWARD 2006
Although unlisted, these buildings form the remains of a small New Forest farm dating from the mid-18th century.
Existing planning approval retained the original structures only in part. Our alternative scheme, preferred by the client, re-used the historic buildings, sensitively integrating them into a new home.
As the buildings embody construction from different periods, restoration included rebuilding a chalk-walled structure by the rammed chalk in shuttering method and adding a green oak-framed roof thatched in combed wheat reed.
The result, involving extensive reconstruction and conservation skill, preserves these important buildings while giving them a new lease of life.
