Chalked Wall

The oldest of a group of buildings dating back to the 18th century, this earth-walled chalk structure required careful restoration.

Using the traditional rammed chalk in shuttering method, we reconstructed the building and added a green oak-framed roof, newly thatched in combed wheat reed.

This was part of a scheme to restore a group of farm buildings to form a single house. Our client preferred this option to using the original planning consent, which retained the original structures only in part.
