19th Century Water Mill Complex
Restoration of this unique Listed mill complex presented challenges on a number of levels. The buildings were virtually derelict, having been untouched since 1975, the mill race was dry, remedial work was needed to the nearby river channel and the site carried SSSI status.
The scheme created a modern home from the miller’s house, a guest annex from the bakery, restored the dairy and built a new oak-framed thatched barn to house an indoor pool.
Sensitive collaboration with all those involved was essential throughout. Repairs and fitting out were planned carefully in parallel with the water channel works undertaken by the Environment Agency and Natural England.
Successfully restored, the buildings now accommodate homes of character in this special setting, and water flows once more through the mill race.
