Type: Museum Renovation Project
Gross Area: 6262 sq ft
Date of Completion: 2015
Location: Salisbury Cathedral Close
The Wardrobe is a Grade II* Listed Building in Salisbury Cathedral Close. Its origins are a 13th century Cannonry.
It has been the home to the Rifles (Royal Berkshire and Wiltshire Regiments) Museum since 1981.
The project includes the renovation of the principle rooms to improve the manner in which the collection and building is exhibited and an extension to provide flexible exhibition area and a floor space to accommodate 100 people seated during lectures.
Our crisp modern design for the extension will appear as a separate building joined to the historic fabric with a frameless glass link. The glass walls of the extension are beneath the deep projection of a copper covered roof.
The contemporary extension design of glass, stone and copper will complement the enduring materials of this historic building.
This exciting project will bring new life to this building and provide the facilities for the next chapter in the life of the Museum.
