Riverside house is a large Victorian house. Typically it’s kitchen had started as a space where staff would have prepared food. In modern times the kitchen has become the hub of the living space. Here it’s size was a small portion of the ground floor area – yet it was the room the family most frequently used. A principle aim of the project was to expand the floor area. A second challenge was to introduce light to this north facing room.
A roof light over the island brought light and to the east elevation has brought morning light. The project has expanded the size of the kitchen into a space that is proportional to the size of the house and a multi-function room with an island kitchen, sofa seating and dining.
